FLOYD COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS ANNOUNCES COMMUNITY CLEAN UP DATES

Floyd County Public Works will be hosting the 3rd  clean-up event of 2008 in the Coosa Community on Saturday,September 27th, from 9 am until 2 pm.  The event will be at the Jones Mill Road Site.  There will be three more events for 2008 held throughout the County.  This is an excellent chance to get rid of material that normally must be hauled to the Walker Mountain Landfill.  There will be no disposal fee and workers will be onsite to unload the material.

“We had a record turnout for the Armuchee cleanup on August 23rd.  More than 300 vehicles dumping more than 30 tons of debris participated in the free event," said Michael Skeen, Floyd County Public Works Director. "The event, supervised by Mike Rhinehart, had more than 40 community service workers from the State Probation Office and the Day Report Center.  Floyd County Government covered the cost of the event with the intent to encourage people to get some of the old junk out of their yards, homes, and garages.  Without the benefit of the free dump days, residents would have to haul the material to the Walker Mountain Landfill and pay the tipping fee.”

Material accepted includes old mattresses, furniture, yard toys, and building supplies.

The event is restricted to Floyd County residents and no commercial dumping is permitted.  Televisions, computers, tires and liquids will not be accepted.

Other scheduled community clean up are:
September 27th             Coosa
October 25th                  Lindale/Midway

STORM CULVERT WORK BEGINS AT THE FORUM; PARKING WILL BE INTERRUPTED FOR NEXT 18 MONTHS

ROME, GA -   Parking will be disrupted at The Forum and surrounding downtown areas beginning Wednesday, April 23, 2008 due to the upcoming construction projects in the area. Visitors to the downtown area should expect traffic delays and parking space availability to be at a minimum during this time.

As a starting point of the project, a culvert will be replaced which runs across The Forum parking lot and ties into 3rd Avenue and Broad Street. That repair work will begin Wednesday and is scheduled to take 6-8 weeks. Once the storm culvert work is completed, construction will begin on The Forum parking deck – a 4 story, 380 space deck jointly funded by the City of Rome and Floyd County.
